University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is hiring a new Assistant Director for Employer Relations in the Graduate College Career Development Office. The position will involve advising graduate students, planning and delivering programs, and developing innovative ways of connecting students and employers.

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has an opening for an Assistant Director of Employer Outreach. This position is a 100% full-time, benefits-eligible Academic Professional position. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Assistant Director for Employer Outreach is responsible for providing support for programs and events developed and delivered by the Graduate College Career Development Office and for providing leadership for employer outreach.  

Major Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, coordinate and deliver career and professional development programming using various formats and technologies

  • Advise students one-on-one and in groups on career development and job search

  • Lead outreach to and develop relationships with employers to expand opportunities for advanced degree candidates

  • Develop innovative approaches and methods for connecting students and employers

  • Coordinate planning and execution of campus-wide events, programs and other activities, including employer outreach

  • Develop and maintain knowledge about careers and trends for advanced degree candidates, especially those in the sciences

  • Oversee, maintain and expand materials and resources on career development and the job search

  • Coordinate marketing and communication of career development events, including GradCareers newsletter

  • Manage the career management software program for the office

  • Represent the Graduate College on campus committees, such as the Career Services Council

  • Conduct regular assessments and evaluations to determine needs and outcomes

  • Assist with other related programs and activities in the office and College


Minimum Education and Work Experience:  


Required:  Bachelor’s degree

Preferred:  Graduate degree



  • Experience in a university setting in an area such as student services or academic administration.  


  • Experience developing workshops/trainings and advising students. Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service 



  • Understanding of the graduate student experience

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborative with diverse groups

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple time-sensitive projects

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills


  • Knowledge of career outcomes for graduate students

  • Ability to plan, manage, and implement events with many stakeholders

  • Understanding of hiring, employment or workforce trends in multiple industries or sectors
