Teaching opportunity TAs needed for UNC BIOC107L

Posted: 05 15, 2017

There is a need of Teaching Assistants for BIOC107L, the recitation component of Introductory Biochemistry (BIOC107).

BIOC107L is a significant teaching experience, a valuable element for anyone’s CV. Most of the students are freshmen and sophomores whose goals are admission to the nursing, dental, and other allied health programs at UNC. The students are generally motivated and appreciative of our help and guidance, and I promise that you will enjoy the considerable one-on-one interaction with them.

Job Duties:

BIOC107L is a series of dry-lab experiments, demonstrations, problem sets, workshops, and clinical case conference discussions. The topics range from chemistry to biochemistry and molecular biology, all at a rudimentary level. BIOC107L meets in two sessions (TAs take only one session), Thursdays from 2:00 – 3:15 and 3:30 – 4:45 PM. Responsibilities include:

Opening class with brief reviews of previous homework assignment and the day’s exercise.
Answering questions and assisting the students as they work through the exercises.
Grading homework assignments and providing feedback.
Being available one hour/week for students seeking additional help.
Attending a brief TA meeting each week, as needed.

Each session has at least two TAs, so your tasks will be shared.

Graduate student or postdoc training in the life sciences
